Where is Psychology in Coaching?

Coaching is a rapidly expanding field of practice. Psychologists are beginning to see this as a possible area of specialism within psychology and coaching psychology interest groups have emerged in a number of countries for example Australia and the UK. But what does psychology specifically offer to the practice of coaching? What do we bring that other professions do not? Are there areas of competence that underpin coaching psychology compared to other psychology specialities. This keynote asks these and other question about the emerging field of coaching and the role of psychology within it. Drawing upon research into coaching, and projects emerging from within coaching psychology the place of the discipline is explored. The keynote concludes with some suggestions for psychologists keen to work
within the coaching arena. We need to ask ourselves, "What do we need to bring and what can we learn from others?".
